Abutilon belong to the Malva family. They are a close relative of hisbiscus and it is very clear from the flowers shape as well. These are also called chinese lantern. The most beautiful abutilon are megapotamicum but i am yet to get my hands on that. These are abutilon hybirdum i think. Although blooming in winter right now, i expect them to bloom till spring and then in the late fall as well.

Fall sowing is at peak right now. I am almost done with planting the bulbs except the hyacinths. Other spring flowering annuals are sprouting as well. Finally monsoon hit and rains started. Protecting container plants in extreme summer heat is a challenge many gardeners face. Note that the plants in soil bed do not feel that much heat as compared to the ones in containers. In my case, i have got majority of my container plants on my terrace, the floor heats up in summers and the roots of plants at bottom of container are stressed. I had to water every second day to protect them.
